Remembering the 4th of July

I never intended for this blog to be political, but sometimes things happen that require words to be spoken. A throng of voices crying out against injustice. I’m talking about Edward Snowden, the man who blew the lid off the government spying on Americans, but then secretly, we all knew it was happening, didn’t we?

When in the course of human events…

How many have read “The Declaration of Independence”? How many know what it means? The men who signed their names to that document just a few generations ago would be ashamed at how quickly and easily our congress has overturned the very foundation of this country, the right to be free, the right to live lives outside of the shadow of a big government.

The Patriot Act: How cleverly titled, just the way George Orwell suggested it would be done.

And the offenses just keep on coming…

Wiretapping, Checkpoints, Drones, “implied consent”, searches without warrants, and a whole list of alphabet names of government bureaucracies whose sole purpose is to keep YOU in compliance. Most of us are not criminals, so why are we being treated like we are? Seriously, the whole TSA thing is ridiculous.

Either people are free and responsible for their actions or everyone is in lock-down and since they are not free to take action, well, we won’t have any more bombings, will we? But that’s just it, we STILL have the same problems we did 15 years ago. The only difference is that you and me, the innocent, the people who have never hurt another person and never will…we are subject to searches. We are subject to full-body scanners or pat downs or an NSA agent reading our emails, our letters, and listening to our phone calls.

And you know what? The only thing that happened is the VERY thing that made America a place to be proud of is GONE. No, I’m not proud of the United States. I don’t support the laws being passed that sell the population out to banks and corporations while enslaving us and ensuring that we’re good little boys and girls.

It makes me sick when a congressman or president uses the word freedom to support the country’s actions, as if they actually know or care what it means. Those very men and women were complicit in removing those very freedoms.

Freedom isn’t what we have right now. We are in a slow downward spiral and with each passing year our freedoms diminish. If you care, please speak out. Vote third party. Write a blog. Write a letter to your local and state reps. DO something that supports officials and individuals who support real freedom.
