I’m just wondering how infanticide has even become a topic of discussion or debate. Has our country become so sick and twisted that murder is now a legitimate means of problem-solving?
The law should boil down to one simple construct. Anything that a person wants to do should be allowable until it infringes on the rights of others. Why is murder and rape so abhorrent? Because those acts take infringement to a personal and violent level. What is being proposed now is evil at its worst.
A baby is a human being. What’s next? Get rid of the elderly, the infirm, the mentally ill because they cost money? Forced sterilizations? Do we really need a visit to the thirties and forties? Because as I recall, those weren’t great times for anyone.
The whole concept of morality is defined by good vs. evil, right vs. wrong. So if the government does not ‘legislate morality’, then why am I paying taxes or worried about a speed limit. As far as right and wrong goes, killing a baby doesn’t even compare to going ten miles over the speed limit. Yes, the government legislates morality. That is how a civilized society works. When we stop being moral, we stop being civilized.
I strongly believe in the freedom of the individual. Freedom of privacy, freedom to a fair trial, freedom from harassment, freedom to marry who you will, freedom to do whatever you want to your own body. I hold freedom above security. If someone wants to do something that harms themselves, fine, but it stops with the individual. Harm someone else and the consequences should be dire.
A society is judged by how it treats the helpless. Experimenting with human DNA and moving the line on who is human so you can kill them? That is sick, sociopathic, and evil. How these scientists are even being taken seriously is beyond me.
Individual rights define our ideals. As a country, we are failing to uphold those beliefs that make us strong.
