Great Resources for Artists and Authors

Over time, I have picked up several books that I have found extremely helpful in one form or another to my growth as either an artist or author.  Here is a list of my favorites…

For Artists:

The Tao of Watercolor by Jeanne Carbonetti (I absolutly LOVE Jeanne’s style of painting.  And find that when I work with watercolors the way she does, I enjoy using them.)

The Zen of Creative Painting by Jeanne Carbonetti

Drawing from Observation by Brian Curtis

The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron (Inspirational book for harnessing your creative energy.)

For Authors:

The Weekend Novelist by Robert J. Ray

The Weekend Novelists Rewrites the Novel by  Robert J. Ray(Some great ideas for organizing scenes, especially helpful for those like me who meander across a novel when writing.)

Manuscript Makeover by Elizabeth Lyon

How to Be Your Own Literary Agent by Richard Curtis (Even if you already have an agent, this is extremely helpful advice for coping with the detailed world of literary contracts.)

Howdunit: How Crimes are Committed and Solved

Deadly Doses: A writer’s guide to poisons

Armed and Dangerous: A Writer’s Guide to Weapons

Reverse Dictionaryby Reader’s Digest
